Update on the Somalia Situation

Apparently African Union troops in Somalia had about 200 Al Shabaab troops surrender to them.

Somalia could be a hot bed if we try and claim land. Potentially we could be fighting the combined forces of the AU, not a pleasant thought.

I do understand why they are doing it though. no one wants an unstable country on your borders.

Iran did the same thing kinda sorta:

But on the other hand Libya has ordered "renegade" militias to disband and this could plunge them into another civil war.

SO Libya could become the new Somalia and it has oil and is close to Europe. Better choice in my book if it crumbles.

What is the viability of joining the African union, even if only temporary?

We would need to form a state and one that would be recognized by the U.S. Russia or China and then have sates friendly to one of said powers recognize us too. We would also need to have a population of mostly native Africans and at least show we are trying to improve the lives of the people and be humble enough to ask other African states to help.
