I looked up Oeno Island on wikipedia:
The Pitcairn Islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom, meaning defence is the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence and Her Majesty's Armed Forces.[3]
Fight the royal navy, or fight skinnys....I know who I want to fight. But that brings up the question, if we just plopped our (mostly) fat asses onto that island, would Britain even care? If you look up the Republic of Minerva, you'll see that the Tongans sent men to occupy the atoll and oust the libertarian movement there. It's hard to say what exactly would have happened if they had actually put up some kind of defense.

may i suggest that we purchase a big ass cruise liner to start off with? if we have a couple of unarmed tenders we can just float wherever the we want and fuck the police. and it wouldn't be much more expensive than purchasing an island. granted it would be expensive to operate but if you did something along the lines of what admin posted in the funding thread we could probably make enough to grow our fleet.

Ah, but the article also said the HAM radio is still the main comm. A night raid to destroy their communications and we could take the entire cluster of island without anyone noticing.

What if we made an agreement with Britain to allow us to live there? Like we pay them a royalty or we agree to assist them in the next war that rolls around. I really don't want to do either, but I would also rather not fight Royal Marines.

As much as I like the idea of sitting on a beach cleaning my moist nugget and sipping fruity drinks...I don't think the UK will just hand over the island. I also don't think the Seychelles is going to either. In fact I don't think any govt. on earth will just hand over a piece of land. It sets off a chain reaction, soon everyone will want to be their own country or whatever. So our best bet is to find a country that is in chaos, without a properly functioning central govt. The only one I know of is Somalia.

It would be like asking a priest if we could borrow his church to film a porno.

What if they didn't know we lived there?

Besides, the Falkans were part of a major shipping route, and British citizens were living there, if I'm correct.

Is Henderson Island just a big weed growing plantation?

Ok I spent a while on google and google-earth searching uninhabited land which is owned by relatively small governments, and far enough away from civilization.

Alot of the North Mariana Islands (Particularly Pagan Island) (Pagan Island is my favorite location so far, it is uninhabited according to a recent census, last seen on the island was "cattle and a few buildings" its huge, has an active volcano, lush wildlife, and is uninhabited for all intents and purposes)

Oeno Island (Very very nice location, but is part of Pitcairn and a vacation spot for the handful of people who live in pitcairn)

Taiaro (Actually private property according to wikipedia. Uninhabited and is a nature preserve)

Tikei (Is rather small and is an atoll, but is pretty much as out of the way as possible.)

Baker Island (Visited annually by US fish and wildlife. A US minor outlying island with scarce resources)

Sydney Island (I thought this was a great choice till I found out its in a giant marine sanctuary)

Taiaro - I like that one.

Guadalupe Island -
Ultralow population of fishermen, has natural resources, an airstrip & some limited infrastructure, and far enough away that you would have time to put up defenses. Would take the Mexicans weeks to even figure out something was wrong. Water would be the main problem - would need to bring a few atmospheric water systems.

Some of these look tantalizing. Entire housing developments in Ireland left abandoned. Spain having an entire city with plungung prices. Juarez Mexico nearly abandoned from Cartels, Jamesburg Earth Station with a 97-foot satellite receiver and a 21,718 square foot bunker-like support building on 161 acres of land for close to $3 million...

Found an interesting tidbit on /k/, The guano Islands act.

Whenever any citizen of the United States discovers a deposit of guano on any island, rock, or key, not within the lawful jurisdiction of any other Government, and not occupied by the citizens of any other Government, and takes peaceable possession thereof, and occupies the same, such island, rock, or key may, at the discretion of the President, be considered as appertaining to the United States.
—first section of Guano Islands Act.

basically we can claim shit covered rocks.
