Anyway, the point of this thread is for setting up hypothetical operations and discussing how we COULD do things (when it comes to actual operating).

Somali pirates have recovered a Turkish drone that crashed. Once it was recovered, it changed hands for awhile and ended up on the transport ship it is currently housed in.

The pirates have been looking for a buyer for awhile now, but for now the only people interested have no way of getting it.

A certain private interest wants to make sure a deal never happens. He wants that drone to disappear. He has financed a cargo ship to bring you a few nautical miles out from the AO (area of operations).

There are three possible outcomes:
A. You sink the ship itself
B. You destroy the drone
C. You recover the drone

You have 20 Kommandos dedicated to this mission, irrespective of the crew of the cargo ship. You can plan to go loud, you can go silent, or you can go diplomatic if you'd like.
Think about how valuable that drone would be to the cause, and weigh that against the level of difficulty a retrieval would be.

What kind of Gear would you go for? What kind of weapons do you think you could either scrounge up or bring? What kind of craft will you use for infiltration?

(I'm not looking to role-play this operation, I'm just looking for good plans and contingencies)

we go in at night. we push in in local dinghy boats. we look like locals, we dress like locals and we smell like locals.


we limpet mine the ship, the ships near it, we go onto the dock and rig every building, every vehicle and every pile of shit sitting there. then we blow it to hell. then in the confusion we storm the area next to the dock, we kill the men, rape the women and enslave the children. we give the somali's something to fear, something to tell their kids about at night.

I say hit it at night first off, and try to go quiet. Suppressed weapons if possible, satchel charges, a big pair of tin snips and a portable cutting torch. If we recover the UAV we can cut the wings off, much easier to transport, since we just need the electronics in the hull.

as for dress we should try something close to local garb, but have body armour and some form of life vest we can wear together.

We hire a local boat like the ones docked west of the objective ship and sail in from the west, drop in the team who make it to the water break wall thing and link up. Leave at least 2 on the insertion boat to make sure if we hired locals that they dont ditch us.

have men as designated marksmen take up position with a clear view between the warehouses to the target ship.

Scout the area, check for guards. be quiet Semi-professionals and knock them out one by one. then have the fire teams stack up on the ship, enter and clear, go loud if necessary. have one team hold the entrance and another find and secure the downed bird.

Move it out and fill the things with satchel charges in the area of the bird. When they blow we may be able to trick them into thinking the bird was destroyed and with chunks of wing left it will help the idea.

Marksmen have staid behind giving over watch move onto the boat and take a head count. We leave NO bodies or weapons of our own behind. We need to leave only enemy contacts.

However the boat we came in on has come around into the mouth of the harbor, get on board with drone, sail away and watch the charges go off.

As for the mission, I would opt for a few guys with scuba gear to just scuttle it with explosives. Either board using an anchor chain (if they dropped one) or board from the dock. Silent weapons if possible. The oxygen-tanks would be stored under the docks (to be donned while evading, whether compromised or not). If the team is discovered, the UAV is abandoned and the team either jumps into the water or sets up a rope and slides in.

We would attempt to extract the UAV using a lifeboat (if any are present), otherwise we would need to commandeer a small ship for transporting it. It would probably be disassembled (and likely be missing pieces anyway as it DID crash) thus easy to move (compared to the full thing). The fuselage component will still be heavy enough to require several men to move. Benefits of leaving parts behind is that people will assume the UAV was crippled in the explosion if they investigate the remains of the ship.

If the ship is too small to accommodate all operators and the UAV, then a few of them can attach to the sides of the craft using harnesses or ropes and be dragged along. Thus in the event that a search-craft stops the escaping craft, the Kommandos in the water can either engage them form the water or board the ship (if the operators escorting the UAV can keep the situation from escalating to a firefight).


This is all assuming that our reconnaissance (if we get the opportunity to recce the area) shows tolerable amounts of patrol crafts. It might even be worth creating a distraction further down the west side of the harbor there, down by the light-house, to draw away prying eyes. What we would risk though is putting all craft near those docks on high alert for the rest of the night. If possible, a test might be done a week or so in advance of the operation.

Pics of Somali/Iranian pirates being detained by the Russian navy, the AK's used by the pirates appear to be in terrible condition and the pirates were going through drug withdrawal at the time.

the Iranian Rail lost 40% of it's value a week ago. Times were already hard and I can only see more people being driven to this sort of thing.

Time for an SHTF preparedness drill. Does anyone have links to the do/k/uments, specifically the master do/k/ument detailing SHTF meeting points, I.D. tags uniform markers etc. ?

Kinda late now, but I laughed when it was a citizen who found the suspect AFTER the lockdown ended. I got into it with a chick at my job that the response was out of proportion to the threat because 9/11 didnt merit this kind of lockdown after thousands died, but two guys and some household supplies kill three and lock a city down, and her response was "Well, everything changed after 9/11."


Are you wanting to discuss SHTF as in martial law? Or SHTF as in 'terrorists' in your community?

SHTF as in martial law, regardless of cause, though it becomes SHTF at the first detonation.
